I had a great time helping Mary Douglas Drysdale with some painting in her living room for the Richmond Symphony Show House.
First I helped with lightening up the walls with a white glaze and adding a border, since her room was based on pattern details.

She had beautiful floors stained in a super geometric pattern,
and placed a simple sea grass rug on top to give the seating area it’s own space.

Once the show house was finished,
she called and had been thinking more about the room.
She wanted to add a border to the sea grass rug,
before the photos were taken for a magazine.
It was the same border from the walls, in a color that went with the stained floor.
I love the finished detail and depth it added to the room!
The simple layering of pattern sets the whole seating area apart, but it stays a part of the whole room.

So what I learned is that no matter how huge of a designer you are,…
a room can always use one extra detail. If a designer comes back and says, lets add this…..
do it.
They are artist and have been thinking about your space, and remember it is a labor of LOVE.
