Painted Floors

January 23rd, 2010

Painted floors are really one of my very favorite projects to be called for.  The impact a painted floor has on an environment always amazes me, and if the idea is brought into a project soon enough, it really is not a hassle.

Here are some of my favorite ones!

Crisp geometrics are very simple and eye-catching.

A simple painted floor rubbed with and Aging Glaze is a nice way to bring in color without a rug in a high traffic area,

like a mud room or kitchen.

Staining a pattern is also a nice way to introduce different shades of brown and stays a little more traditional.

One of my most favorite is the all over stencil, heavily aged,  floor. This was featured in Domino Magazine in August of 2008. Boy do I miss that magazine ! it was really inspiring!

    Sunny,

Is it possible to paint a dark grey slate floor which is in an entrance hall? Or do you have another suggestion?

    Natalie-
There are so many NEW primers out there, I would go to your local knowledgeable paint/hardware store, and ask if any of the primers will adhere to slate to prepare it for paint. I will never say never- there are primers that adhere to Vinyl Composition Tile (VCT) and linoleum. Once it is primed you are good to paint!

    Hi Sunny,

South and I are moving June 1st and started painting the kitchen and breakfast room. I want to buy the Bea stencil, but need help with the color glaze. The walls are a BM color called Adirondack Green and the ceilings are Peacock Feather. The crown molding is very wide and white, allowing a good break between the two strong colors. What color should I buy from your glazes? Do I go to Grove or should I order from your website?

    Thanks!
    Kath

Thanks for the great tips. I love looking at other decorative painting websites. The large scale pattern ideas on your blog look beautiful! I’m going to try one in my daughter’s room.Audrey

Sunny, I finally got my hands on your PAINT CAN! book and am making final decisions on colors etc. to order. Can you please tell me the color combination used on the dresser on page 2? My nine year old daughter whose room we are redoing says it is the most beautiful piece of furniture she has ever seen. Thanks so much, Tammy
