Gold & Silver Leaf- Walls, Ceilings and More…

Thursday, January 19th, 2012

Silver Leaf  is well worth the investment…

it is a timeless amazingly beautiful treatment for walls,  & ceilings (if you can stand the pain!)

It can find a home comfortable in ANY environment-

think of it as Jewelry for your house.

Too much ruins the outfit, BUT we all can use a little BLING!

The Powder Room below needed some dressing up…

The silver leaf walls reflect the light from the window above.

This Dining Room ceiling (below) was silver leafed in order to reflect light, add elegance,  and age to a new home.

It is details like these that help newer homes have the charm of older ones.

Daylight with out any lights on…just stunning.

reflection of sconce light on the ceiling is awesome!!

View from down low looking up- the ceiling was first painted a mustard yellow,

but any color underneath the leafing looks cool!

The nice thing about a silver leafed ceiling is that it is timeless,

goes with any decor,  and is a true decorating investment.

No Crown Moulding (funky ceiling angles)= No Problem

Wednesday, March 10th, 2010

I often see “no crown moulding” as an advantage in decorative painting.

The ceiling is the “fifth wall” and is usually ignored.

Here are a few examples:

This little girls nursery has a lot of funky angles in the room, the “canopy”, created by the scrolly border enabled the funky lines to be incorporated into the design.  The light colors keep it soothing and calm.

What Makes These Rooms Work?

Wednesday, February 24th, 2010

I am often challenged in my job to figure out what is inside my clients head!-

(boy I bet you all wish you had my job…)

SO what I have resorted to is “WHAT MAKES THIS WORK”…. well, I will give you a few examples.

I LOVE THIS ROOM!    {British Home & Garden}

The bright yellow ceiling WORKS- because,   (1) it is in a room with VERY tall ceilings,    (2) the curved plaster moulding painted lime green frames it,      (3) the walls AND the floor are a very neutral mid-tone grey, which leads your eye to the super fabulous ceiling!    ALSO,    (4) the curtains contain all of the colors in the room in a very subtle form. IF….the walls were a color, or (god forbid) -WHITE, or the rug were a color, this room would NOT work!

Striped Ceiling & Canopy Effects

Tuesday, February 9th, 2010

I have always loved the way stripes, if carried onto a ceiling, can created a “tented” effect.

I think I like how the ceiling encompasses the WHOLE room and makes the atmosphere so much more inviting.

Here are a few neat examples:

If  the wall space is “up” and closer to the ceiling this is a nice way to unify the walls and the ceiling,

rather than chopping them up with different colors.

Ceiling Canvas

Monday, February 1st, 2010

I have painted many ceiling canvases for designers in Virginia.

Here are a few of my favorites.

Here I cut the shape, painted the canvas, and then had it wallpapered to the ceiling before my chandelier was hung.
